The Billion Bee Foundation is an Australian Government Registered Not for Profit, Tax Deductible organisation that is dedicated to the restoration of Native Stingless Bees in our community.
Our mission is to Give Nature Back the Upper Hand actively, scientifically and passionately ensuring this will occur. We are passionate about conservation, innovation and sustainability.

Our immediate priority is to replace Native Stingless Bee Colonies, that have been devastated by the bushfires of 2019 and 2020 along the East Coast of Australia. We aim to replace as many Bee colonies as we can in Bushfire affected communities and to provide community engagement and education about the importance of our Australian Native Bees. Our ongoing priorities are to provide Native Stingless Bee Colonies to Schools, Childcare Centres, Community Gardens
and Organic Farms. This is to ensure supply to our regional friends, more Native Stingless Bee colonies can be propagated for the future and to educate our urban community about biodiversity, the connection between insects, animals, plants for our urban environment including air and water quality.

A Sad Fact: In NSW and Queensland by March 2020, thirty-three (33) people lost their lives and 2,500 homes were destroyed. 8.4 million hectares of land burned. It is estimated that billions of insects perished. (Source: 7.30 Report ABC program The Aftermath).

Billion Beehives
These hives are custom built by the Brighton Men’s Shed in Sydney, NSW to the engineering design specification developed by Master Beekeeper Peter Aitkens. The result is sublime. A beautifully constructed hive out of sustainable Paulownia timber that can withstand high temperatures. Built to withstand heat, pests and made to increase airflow to the brood via designed plenums to ensure hive ventilation and hive health. And this is just the Tetragonula Carbonaria (TC) hives. Wait until you meet the AA hives.

Please become involved – Make a donation or provide as a gift.

The Billion Bees Foundation aims to replenish and increase the native bee populations of Australia that have been decimated by Bushfire, urban development and industry and “give nature back the upper hand”. We would love you to be involved. We are firing up our program by beginning our first major propagation program.
If you want to be involved and join the program to donate bees to fire affected communities, schools and community facilities
Donate a Native Stingless Brood to a Bushfire affected community, Childcare Centre, School, Community Centre. These can be in regional communities or in urban environments. Our urban hives boost our Regional community hives and colonies.
If you need help deciding where you would like to donate, Billion Bee Foundation has a comprehensive priority list of the worst fire effected communities and or other places. This is so you know where your contribution has been made. So as a donor you can choose from a list of schools and community centres and fire effected communities.
